@halfpipefreak i have too jerk, i ride a 66 RC3 1.5" on my iron horse, before that a 55, and before that a gran fondo. and I ride it lower than the factory air preload on dh. I have only ever felt it bottom out like twice, actually felt it, maybe your's needs a rebuild... ha
