Though I never knew her, I feel so close to her. She channeled suffering and chronic pain into the brush she held in her hand. As a chronic pain sufferer and an artist as well, I get a deep catharsis when I study her paintings, especially toward the end of her life.

@anniecamera And it's a good opinion, I think. There can be little doubt that this life - for almost everyone - is about suffering and how we learn to handle it and - in rare cases - transmute it into something remarkable that benefits others. And yes - it does seem that physical trauma releases genius: there is a story of the hitherto unremarkable painter, Augustus John, cracking his skull in a swimming accident and thereafter producing work of the highest calibre. A good tale - true or not.

@zthetha i believe she would not have started to create paintings if it was not due to her accident, she was smart like her farther and independent and i doubt that she would have found her creative nature with out it.
it was her premise her motivation, like other confessional type artists their creative foundations seemed to be linked with a type of personal traumatic experience.
butt thats just my opinion :)
this documentation if fascinating by the way thank you.

Well said. I've often thought about her painting without the accident. Death and pain, they bring life and spark creativity. Her art was her escape, the pain brought everything into her work and gave her hunger to live, with Diego, so without the accident perhaps she wouldn't have clutched on so tightly. I have no doubt she would have been a fabulous artist without though. She has given us so much, I think she was very much a martyr of her time and such an inspiration.

@aniabania4 Hi - thanks for your comment. It would be fascinating to know how her painting would have developed had she not had her accident. They both had other affairs which perhaps, I suspect, caused Frida more suffering than Diego. The atmosphere around these two very talented individuals must have been high octane - all that power and passion.

I agree, however he contributed astoundly if not completely to her suffering, and yet it is what brought out the pure artiste within her. They were truly soulmates.
Frida's life was so harrowing and her paintings so heart rending that I can only bear to look at them for a short time. Her talent was astounding and it is no wonder Diego was wrecked by the death of such a soul mate. An amazing woman.
