Cold divers know what diving really means. I live in Puget Sound and water here is TOTALLY different than some exotic reef. That cold water hits you like a slap in the face. Just got OW last month. Keep on diving!!

If you'd read the title of the video, it says "Cold Water Mask Removal". It doesn't say "Cold Water Mask Removal and Regulator Recovery". Of course, there are many ways this skill could be expanded, but that wasn't the point of the video. The fact that the regulator was removed at all in this video is incidental.
Feel free to post your own video where you throw your mask and regulator away and do a blind recovery of both in 40 degree water.

Haha, brings back memories. We did this in UK in February for Open water Certification many years ago when the water temp was 2 degrees..it was like being hit in the face with a brick!

I Also Disagree And Did Bring Up The Matter At The Last Diver Forum I Attended In Preston Last Year, Unfortunately It Fell On Deaf Ears Again,...... Keep Up The Cold Water Diving

@acenspades: This was never intended to be any kind of public skills demonstration--it's just two friends practicing skills. Having worked with instructors from almost every agency, my experience is that there's no significant difference between the various OW programs. The main difference is the instructor.

I Am A Master Instructor MI 622088
That Is Why I Thought It Was Very Strange You Was Doing Mask Removal And Reg Recovery all At The Same Time.... Padi Does Need To Make The Program A Lot More Rigorous And Maybe The Next Time I Speak to Neil Fishburne At Padi I Will Mention The Possible Variation On The Mask Removal ...lol

I was PADI OW trained with a very good instructor, and all my other training was through SSI. Both agencies seem to be about the same, imo. We have several folks die up here in Seattle each year, and the cause is almost always diver error. That tells me the training is inadequate. You just can't be prepared for cold water, low-vis diving after two classroom sessions, two pools dives and four OW dives, but I guess the agencies think that's sufficient. I disagree.

I Fully Agree That The Programs Should Be More Demanding ......Do you Instruct Scuba ?

I'm an SSI DiveCon, which is basically an assistant instructor, so I've helped with lots of classes. I decided not to pursue becoming an instructor because it was too expensive.
