PULPIT
There was a man, and in his hand,
he held the word of heaven.

"What joy!" he cried "For what's inside,"
"Can answer any question!"

He had no love for earthly lore,
So he gave it abnegation.

"What need have I for mortal wit?
When I have revelation?"

He travelled far accross the land,
with sermons most inspiring.

And when he spoke unearthly words,
Passions were a'firing.

"Beware the heathen, cast down the sinner!"
He called from pulpit high.

"Only fear of god can make men good,
So let none fall from your eye!"

"Yes!" chimed out the chorused masses,
"We'll find them where they lurk!"

And lit they many a pyre to the tune of;
"In righteousness we work!"

Writers, thinkers, poets, doctors,
They were sinners, every one.

Tossed, were they, into the flames,
'till it burned brighter than the sun.

"Wise work, my flock!" he cawed to gathered folk,
"To turn the sinners into kindling!"

But the embers burned too fierce,
The excitement was too great.

And alas! Alack! He had a heart attack!
And felt his life a'dwindling.

"Call a medic! Send for a scholar!" he moaned,
As he lay on pulpit stairs.

But from hill to dale, not one was found.
And all he had was prayers.

  • nice job, but why would he call for a doctor to save his life, if his going to join jesus-god in heavenland. Shouldn't his flock gather around and wish him bon-voyage.

  • Hypocrisy among the faithful? Egads, no!

  • WizardJim is great.

    Poetic virtuoso

    That is he

  • Haiku skills are great,

Much may be said in three lines,

    But I like more room.

  • THAT WAS FUCKING ACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

    SERIOUSLY!!!!!, awesome man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I only wish you could sing, I woudl have use for you as a lyricist in my band lol.

  • I was in a male-voice choir for a while, but I doubt your band would benefit from a resounding Welsh Baritone.

  • 5* and favorite, btw.

  • That was amazing! I like the end, '"Call a medic! Send for a scholar!" he moaned, As he lay on pulpit stairs. But from hill to dale, not one was found. And all he had was prayers.'

    Very nicely done.

  • Wow, as a guy who has taken creative writing courses at university for the last three years i got to say well done. I've tried my hand at poetry and you have completely out done my attempts. Good work sir.

  • Your poem is quite good. These days, we are bombarded by lazy, spliced-up sentences masquerading as poetry. I'm glad that talented poets like you still exist.

  • I've watched this video 3 times in a row and now it's in my Favorites. I don't know much about poetry, but I know what I like. You should write more of these.

  • Extended limerick? That sounded like a proper poem. My favourite lines:

"Wise work, my flock!" he cawed to gathered folk,

"To turn the sinners into kindling!"

    Fierce, in a funny way..

  • I really have such a hard time with satire, but you are a brilliant master of the art. Wonderful work!

  • "Ahem" sounds great "ehem".

Joking, that actually sounds really interesting, would you possibly be up for some kind of collaboration in the future?

Interesting you should mention that, I herd Christopher Lee singing recently, he has a really interesting voice, with the accent and all. He is a baritone, you would think he is a bass, but most of the time, he sounds like a bass, then he pulls of a Pavarotti style high a or something lol
