It is basically a wireless robot which uses electro-adhesion for climbing different surfaces. It is equipped with features that can be used for surveillance in remote places

  • How is the voltage applied to the material? If you touch the climber in a certain way, will it shock you? What kind of high voltage device do you use to charge the aluminum foil and dielectric? When it's climbing do both sides of the belt attract or interact with each other or is just the side that grips the wall charged for half the rotation on the belt? Thanks.

  • @Resonanttheme :

Q:How is the voltage applied to the material?

A:High voltage is applied to belt using ball-bearing arrangement, ie high voltage is applied to the ball-bearing, which is in contact with the adhesive belt. The section of belt which is in contact with ball-bearing is not coated with dielectric gel.

Q:If you touch the climber in a certain way, will it shock you?

A:Yes you will experiance shock. The voltage required for adhesion is in the range 1KV to 10KV. Theoretically we had generated 4.7KV, but when measured using a crude method (using potentiometer) wegot around 1.5KV. Though the voltage is high but the current is of the order milli ampere or even less. so better be cautious.

Q:What kind of high voltage device do you use to charge the aluminum foil and dielectric?

A: We had used fly back transformer with a driver ckt to generate high voltage. There are small sized High voltage DC-DC converter that are available but are costly, so could not use.

  • @Resonanttheme :

Q:When it's climbing do both sides of the belt attract or interact with each other or is just the side that grips the wall charged for half the rotation on the belt?

A: Completely belt will be charged all the time. No, sides of belt dont interact with each other ( atleast we nerver experianced)

  • @Resonanttheme :you can give you mail id, Will send picture and details if you need.

    thank you.

  • @Resonanttheme : the adhesive belt is made of aluminium foil. one side of belt (ie aluminium foil) is coated with dielectric material( commercially known as silicone gel ,used in glass works) and the other is pasted with plastic tape (tixo tape) for mechanical sturdity.

  • What is the adhesion material made from. Is it some sort of metal and dielectric layering?
