Video footage from Shonan, Japan (first part) and Tokyo (second part)
Lyrics:
Stood still on a highway
I saw a woman
By the side of the road
With a face that I knew like my own
Reflected in my window
Well she walked up to my quarterlight
And she bent down real slow
A fearful pressure paralysed me in my shadow
She said 'son what are you doing here
My fear for you has turned me in my grave'
I said 'mama I come to the valley of the rich
Myself to sell'
She said 'son this is the road to hell'
On your journey cross the wilderness
From the desert to the well
You have strayed upon the motorway to hell
Well I'm standing by the river
But the water doesn't flow
It boils with every poison you can think of
And I'm underneath the streetlight
But the light of joy I know
Scared beyond belief way down in the shadows
And the perverted fear of violence
Chokes the smile on every face
And common sense is ringing out the bell
This ain't no technological breakdown
Oh no, this is the road to hell
And all the roads jam up with credit
And there's nothing you can do
It's all just pieces of paper flying away from you
Oh look out world, take a good look
What comes down here
You must learn this lesson fast and learn it well
This ain't no upwardly mobile freeway
Oh no, this is the road
Said this is the road
This is the road to hell
Beautiful song with great political significance. Especially since Christ was a political science student. I think this song has criticized the policies of President Reagan (1981 - 1989), which was marked by economic crisis, social and political (inflation, exchange rates of unemployment, the dollar at the highest level in the markets securities, and a sharp increase in the budget deficit, and the liberalization of the economy. .. the arms Race Euromissile crisis "

@UnfoundWay -You are doing the right thing mate -we, everyone, has to learn to live within your means -I never use my credit card now -I still use debit card but mostly to get cash out -you are doing right just keep with it and you will see the light of credit-it is never too late.

Great video. Prophetic lyrics. Tragic that nobody listened.

@Fartsurmonde No more prophetic words were ever spoken, in a song. I am trying to do my part now. Everything I purchase is cash. I have no credit nor debit cards anymore. All my bank accounts are closed. Would that I listened to the words to this song, twenty five years ago, instead of just eight years ago. It may be too late for me. I will try to dig out of this hell. Even if I fail, I am passing the word forward, to save others from, "The Road to Hell."

Love this tune, cool vid too, not necessarily about traffic jams but about the way we are so dependant on cars to get anywhere and about the monotony of the car journey, driving round and round and round, to quote a sh.te blur song

Chris Rea - The Road To Hell ( Full Version).....Wonderful....

This Video is lovely, BUT it is obviously NOT what Chris had in mind. How about sitting in a 30 mile traffic jam on the British M25? Nowhere to run on there when everything is snarled up with wall-to-wall traffic going nowhere....
