This set felt pretty good. I did this set after doing 9 sets of Dynamic Effort (DE aka Speed Bench), and doing 275x5 on Incline Barbell Bench Press, so needless to say, I wasn't fresh for this lift. I've only attempted a 5RM on this, and my current 5RM PR is 285x5. Considering I wasn't fresh and that the last time I did these were on 3/10/08, I am satisfied with this set. The weight didn't feel terribly difficult, either. On the first two reps, I made sure I barely touched my shirt so I wouldn't bounce it off my chest. I quickly pressed the first two reps after barely touching my shirt to improve on reversal strength. On the third rep, I slowed it down just a little. Anyway, you can tell from my bar speed that I can do a bit more weight and that this wasn't too tough.

I wonder what my 1RM on this is...I guess I'll have to find out!

  • i did reverse grip 235x7 today i weigh 170lbs im catching up to you man you better watch out im also in sd

  • Good job dude.

I haven't done this bench variant since I took this video (over a year and a half ago!). You probably already got me beat on this, haha.

  • wow nice form too. whats your regular bench

  • Thanks man. At the time I took this video, I think I benched up to about 365 lbs. My bench really fluctuates depending on how much I weigh. As I type this, I'm no where close to doing this right now.

  • how much you weigh? powerlifters dont cut so are you a bodybuilder?

  • Today, I weighed in at 188 lbs when I woke up. Well, when I did my powerlifting meets, I always had to cut down to make the 198 lb weight class. I usually like to hover around 205 lbs. The most I've weighed was about 225 lbs, and I benched over 400 lbs raw then. I've sustained some injuries and training for the military now, so I'm not training too seriously right now. I'm definitely not a bodybuilder cuz I hate dieting, haha.
