Album: '98 Live Meltdown

[Tipton/Halford/Downing]

Pounding the world like a battering ram
Forging the furnace for the final grand slam
Chopping away at the source soon the course will be done
Leaving a trail of destruction that's second to none

Hammering anvils straining muscle and might
Shattering blows crashing browbeating fright
Fast devastating and desolisating the curse
Blasting the cannons of truth through each man of this earth

Wielding the axe comes the one culmination
That's always seemed certain to bring down the curtain on greed

Sifting the good from the bad it's the age for the rage
Of the dogs which must fall to the just and be free

Now grate for the vandals who trampled and sampled
Till this place conditioned brought forth demolition to war

The slipping and sliding corrosive subsiding
That withered and wained till the world seemed all drained fills the bay

Pounding the world like a battering ram
Forging the furnace for the final grand slam
Chopping away at the source soon the course will be done
Leaving a trail of destruction that's second to none
Second to none.

  • This has to be the best version of "Rapid Fire" to me. It bleeds with rage and energy!!

  • This is NOT Rob Halford on vocals. This is Ripper Owens, who filled in for Rob Halford while he pursued side projects. Rob Halford came back to Judas Priest later.

Rob Halford was the #1 voice in metal history, but Ripper Owens had a great voice himself -- and better than Halford in his older age.

Judas Priest the band lays it down no matter what with the DOUBLE GUITAR ATTACK of Tipton and Downing.

  • rippers vocals are just astounding

  • @tcarstar33 Lets wait for Owen when he pass 60 + age ;)

  • @DavidDavidsonful Absolutely, age/long career is a big factor. Even with a loss in higher registers I gotta say he still sings better than a lot of the newer guys on the scene, though.

  • @apedemartini The fact that he's 60 years old and has been singing his throat out for more than 45 years is certainly a factor too, Ripper is still young.

  • @apedemartini However Rob's mid range is still strong and clear. He should really be the new singer for Black Sabbath now that Dio has passed and Ozzy is, well, Ozzy. Anyone who's heard those November '92 bootlegs knows he performs Ozzy and Dio eras phenomenally

  • Nice speed metal version! I remember getting this live album when it came out. I was so curious to hear how this "new Ripper guy" was going to handle the old material. I wish Halford still sounded this good, and he could have, if he quit smoking 20 years ago. Cigarettes can really damage a singer's range. Halford seems to point the mic at the crowd a lot and just can't hit and sustain those crucial stratospheric notes like Ripper does.

  • jajaja el pendejo ke le puso ke no le gustaba morira virgen a la verga xD

  • He's a good singer without doubt, but Priest is Halford. Moreover, you just don't change a single fucking thing in songs like these.

  • This version kicks fucking ass!!!!

  • THE DUAL AXE ATTACK OF TIPTON AND DOWNING! YEAH!
