The Curdworth Flight rises 76' 4" over a distance of 3.12 miles heading south on the Birmingham Canal Navigations (Birmingham and Fazeley Canal -- Main Line)
We made this trip on a cold, overcast and windy day in late September and so felt justified in nipping into the Dog & Doublet, just above Lock No 9, for a glass of something warming. Purely, you will understand, for medicinal reasons.
This latter action had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with a slight coming together with the entrance to Lock No 3. It was the wind I tell you; nothing but wind smear!
The M42 motorway follows close to most of this section of the canal. Indeed, Curdworth Lock Bridge, just below the Top Lock, carries the spur road to the M6 Toll Road. The bridge itself carries a sign saying 2003 and we belive it was the building of this bridge that caused the Top Lock to be moved 100 yards or so south to its present position.
Half a mile south of the Top Lock is the Curdworth Tunnel which, at 57 yards, must be one of the shortest tunnels on the system. Immediately beyond the tunnel are the Visitor Moorings and access to Curdworth which is a pretty little village and previous recipient of Best Kept Village Awards. It boasts a Post Office/General Store and two pubs.
We reckoned that with the badlands of Birmingham ahead this was probably the last vestige of civilization and safest place to stay overnight. Thus we repaired for the evening to The White Horse, the nearer of the two pubs to the canal, where our genial landlord concurred with our view. The White Horse is a large and friendly pub providing a wide range of food, and we enjoyed an excellent dinner in convivial surroundings.
Our decision was justified next morning when; just south of Minworth, two teenagers leering over a bridge threw a lollipop at us. As you can imagine we were outraged by this. PIGandPINEAPPLE say "BRING BACK THE BIRCH FOR LEERING TEENAGE LOLLIPOP LOUTS!"
Sorry not to be rude but what is the point? Are you not just on a boat? I don't understand what you did? Please explain...no offence or anything.

Doing the Warwickshire next week, so will be visiting this stretch of canal. Will look out for the tricky lock No.3 For-warned is for-armed. LOL. If my time-lapse stuff pulls off I should have the reverse direction up sometime. Mind you its a case of protecting the camera through "the badlands" too as we're doing the short route (C_de_B - Cudworth in a single day)

Great minds think alike! We did Curdworth to C_de_B in a single eight and a half hour run for exactly the same reason and the shorter route via the Garrison Locks rather that the Aston ones. We also mounted the camera on the back for additional safety!

The Boat at C_de_B is a Chef & Brewer and is OK although even at 6 in the evening many of their specials were unavailable! Beware though if you're on the flight path from Birmingham Airport you won't get much sleep. The White Horse near the Curdworth Visitor Moorings is excellent!
