  • Did ANYONE ever play it better? Bravo!

  • This is a fitting conclusion to one of the greatest Rach 2s ever recorded, and my own personal favorite of all.

  • Hi fans! If you are interested in the 1930s-1950s pianists, there is Benno Moiseitwitsch who is very very good. His Rach 2 is on Naxos Historical series. I wonder if his playing is on Youtube. Rachmaninov himself was very impressed with Mr Benno and good friends with him...

  • @tuberobotto Hi tuberobotto! Each has his own favorite recordings... I heard that Graffman is a great pianist too! Bernstein was also superb as a counductor! Cassettes, CD, mp3s can never match the LPs and vinyls for their warmths and nostalgia.... :-)

  • @wesmusic2072 I would include Gary Graffman/Bernstein if you don't mind. Graffman's playing has a lot of beautiful elements including the most romantically intense 2nd mov. That is at least, my own honest opinion. I fell in love with it but since the demise of my vinyl copy, searching for a digital version of this exact same recording seems hopeless.

  • Mr Kapell plays with much passion and fire. He reminds me of Hoffman. Other good Rach 2 recordings are by Earl Wild, Richter and Kissin. Kapell is the most passionate. Even Rachmaninov himself seemed restrained in his recording.

  • Incredibleee!!!!

    Amaziiing

  • ...the reason this has such immediate appeal is that he takes the piano "artifacts", the piano "paraphenalia", the plinky-plink, right out of the sound...people who "hate the sound of the piano" will still go for this guy...

  • I had to look it up because I heard it was one of Princess Diana's favorites... now I know why! Beautiful!!

  • This is the finest performance I've heard of this movement.

  • This is the finest recording I've heard of this piece. Every note is crystal clear.

  • @weikko79 Kapell's interpretation is one of my top 3 favorites for this concerto. The other two are Richter and Zimerman. Really, they're all so great I can't really pick one that's better than others!
