@monjiaitaly That may be true...you'd think technology would make life easier for us, and it has in some ways...but we've become an even more fast-paced society and that accounts for much of the stress, I'm sure.

Terry Schaivo was brain-dead. Recovery was not possible, and according to her husband's testimony she didn't want to be a vegetable, kept alive for no purpose at all. Her brain was examined at the autopsy, and it was found to have so thoroughly atrophied that it would have taken a --literal-- miracle to have saved her.
But I digress. Klavan's point is otherwise good.

this is to black and white, i am sure there where things in the past that were better than today. I have been around awhile and even in my own time I can say all changes are not always for the better. This is hogwash, we have the most stressed out society of all time and it was brought on by technology. We are not happier today than we were 60 years ago.

@hitballfootler JFK was only going to withdraw from South Vietnam when the anti-communist government there was strong enough to fend for itself (something that was briefly achieved after the Paris Peace of 1973)...an important difference from what you're implying.
