HRH Princess Madeleine at the American Swedish Historical Museum, June 5, 2011

On Sunday, June 5, 2011, Princess Madeleine of Sweden was the guest of honor at the opening ceremony for the Sven Gunnarsson and Jonas Nilsson New Sweden gallery at the American Swedish Historical Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

She had to leave shortly after the ceremony in order to fly back to Sweden to join her family for the National Day of Sweden (Sveriges nationaldag) celebration in Stockholm the next day:

By the time she left the museum, it was probably nearly eleven-thirty p.m. Stockholm time, so hopefully she was able to get some sleep on the plane!

I was so angry that I didn't find out about this until after the fact. This was ignored by the local media, but had it been those boorish Brits that would have showed up, it would have been crammed down the publics' throats for days. Thanks for posting this!

You can get on the ASHM email list for their events through their website. ASHM members received invitations in the regular mail, if you wanted to join. (I know it's too late now though for this event.)

I too was a little disappointed that the press didn't cover this cool event, but perhaps it was a request of the Royal Family not to make too big of a deal out of Madeleine's visit? One can only speculate.

@WesternPAdude That would make sense since the Swedish royals don't need tons of publicity for everything they do. I have to get my carcass over to the Museum and check it out. I'm sure the royals will make future appearances at the Museum, so getting a membership is a great idea!
