Based on rare archival material, obscure trial manuscripts, and interviews with relatives of the conspirators and the manhunters, CHASING LINCOLN'S KILLER is a fast-paced thriller about the pursuit and capture of John Wilkes Booth: a wild twelve-day chase through the streets of Washington, D.C., across the swamps of Maryland, and into the forests of Virginia.

"This story is true. All the characters are real and were alive during the great manhunt of April 1865. Their words are authentic and come from original sources: letters, manuscripts, trial transcripts, newspapers, government reports, pamphlets, books and other documents. What happened in Washington, D.C., that spring, and in the swamps and rivers, forests and fields of Maryland and Virginia during the next twelve days, is far too incredible to have been made up."

So begins this fast-paced thriller that tells the story of the pursuit and capture of John Wilkes Booth and gives a day-by-day account of the wild chase to find this killer and his accomplices. Based on James Swanson's bestselling adult book MANHUNT: THE 12-DAY CHASE FOR LINCOLN'S KILLER, this young people's version is an accessible look at the assassination of a president, and shows readers Abraham Lincoln the man, the father, the husband, the friend, and how his death impacted those closest to him.

  • i HIGHLY recomend this book. it is such a great read i couldnt put it down. read this for not just booth, but the back stories of the people who helped him out on his journey

  • @seldomseennow He was giving his life before JWB killed him. He devoted himself heart and soul to the war effort. Have you ever seen pictures of how much he aged in 4 years? The war consumed him emotionally, mentally, and physically. JWB did so much harm to the South by murdering Lincoln. Lincoln was prepared to give the South mercy, but his murder threw that idea out the window.

  • I loved this book!

  • so true!

  • great book i did a whole speech on the capturing of JWB using just this book, very informative.

  • HIS cause? How about the other millions of americans that did not belive in dissolution of the Union, OR were enraged when the south FIRED the first rounds in a conflict that was not inevitably destined for bloodshed. It's LIKELY slavery would have died in the next generation, but recession and aggression was traitorous.

  • YES I loved it too. I could not put down . I had finished like a week during college. I felt like I was there with both, or sitting next to lincoln. 10 out 10.

  • maybe it was fitting that Lincoln give his life for his cause seeing as how he sent 600,000 other people to their deaths fighting for his causes. I think it only appropriate that Lincoln forfeit his life as he asked others to do.
