Underdeveloped, you werent there, i have spoken to many of the oldies who lived under the monarchy, only in the industrialised north did anyone have a chance. and even then there was widespread poverty.

Italy had a better monarchy, that took in the whole country.

But italy was underdeveloped, with lots of poverty and injustice.

Royalty had its chance in Italy and failed.

The southerners have failed as human beings, they should be ethinically cleansed.

I'am a monarchist. I don't believe in your "enlighted" republican crap - magic saying that democrazy is good and such things. There are no nations. There are individual people ruled by the king, who is consecrated by God. But it's not problem for me to see Visconti's film as a masterpiece.
