Assemblyman Jim Beall Jr. may be foster cares best friend in California. Jim has been a leader in California and the United States promoting support for foster children, foster parents and the overall foster care system.
In 2010, Jim was joined by other California lawmakers to draft, lobby for and pass AB 12, the most comprehensive foster care bill that allows foster youth to stay in the system until age 21 and allows for relative to be paid/reimbursed for living with and supporting familial foster youth! On September 30, 2010, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law Assembly Bill 12 (AB 12), also known as the California Fostering Connections to Success act. This act will offer federal reimbursements to states that choose to extend foster care to age 21.
Jeanette Schnell with My Greenhouse Productions, caught up with Assemblyman Beall and Denise Marchu, Executive Director of the Kinship, Adoptive & Foster Parent Association of Santa Clara County in June 2010 to talk about AB12, Foster Care Central and the need for National Foster Care Standards. As usual, Jim is passionate about AB12 and foster care and shares with Jeanette his recent alliance with country singer, Jimmy Wayne, to promote AB12, California's bipartisan approach to foster care, who is Foster Care Central and what it will take to start a National Foster Care Standards movement!
Thank you Jim and Denise for allowing our humble video production company to meet with you and talk!
