Capoeira angola vs regional

@CarNikolaj the real problem with this comment is that it perpetuates stereotypes of Regional and perpetuates the false competitiveness between Angola and Regional. Yes, some schools (Regional or Angola) have a robotization element to the training, but definitely not "all" regional groups do this. And the bottom line is... capoeira is capoeira. And Mestre Cobra Mansa is just a badass capoeirista no matter who he is playing. Plus, CM wasn't necessarily dominating the games

@msnorden well...I'm not going to defend anyone else's statement. Please tell me you are older than 6, because you are mighty articulate for that age. I think any capoeirista will admit that there can be a lot of superfluous movements in regional, whereas in angola you really shouldn't throw a kick without it influencing your opponent's movement. I think some regional players have beautiful games (grew up with some of the best, imo) while others are simply playing acrobatics with themselves

@teiaperigosa you are exactly right. He could be playing another mestre or contra-mestre, which I strongly doubt. I continue to disagree however with the "fluidity" statement of their games - robotization of regional as a whole. When I play someone who is all about forcing movements, it's easy for ME to catch them (6 years old). So how easy would it be for Mestre Cobra (50+ years) to do the same? Come to some Regional mestres roda and point out the "robots" during a benguela game.
-
@msnorden do you even know who he is playing? this looks like a large 'encounter', where it is common for mestres to play eachother, or contra mestres and very experienced students. at a roda like this, not just anyone walks into the roda with a mestre. also, respect should be ALWAYS given in the roda no matter what level or who you are... CarNikolaj's comment is about the fluidity of his game, not who's kicking who's butt.

Mestre Cobra Mansa simple The Best Angolero :D
-
That´s MESTRE COBRA MANSA ! I already had the pleasure to play with him. He´s just the best Capoeira Angoleiro in the world ! muwahahahha

angola is a way to be and not to appear, but Bimba's regional is pure energy!!!

To Visit Mestre Bimba Foundation in Salvador Bahia, to have a real expirience with Capoeira Regional.

I feel so shame about that, the guy who is playing on the roda with Mestre Cobra Mansa is not even close of one real Regional. Capoeira Regional has a lot of principles involved and this guy did everything on wrong way. One of the basics principles is play really next to your opponent and keep on base on the ground. Regional doesn´t have acrobatics movies and if anyone are doing it and call it as Regional they don´t know anything about Mestre Bimba. I am inviting you all to go at Mestre Bimba

a coooooobra!!!!! :D
The real problem of "Regional-Player" is that he is taught to "do moves". You can see that when playing with Cobra, they are desperately trying to force their hard-learned moves onto the situation, while Cobra, well, just moves as he sees fit.
This is the unfortunate result of "robotization" of capoeira regional that happened in last decades.

@CarNikolaj
I have mad respect for Angola, but please don't forget that Mestre Cobra is a mestre and he's playing with students of Regional. In order to justify your comment you need to have two mestres playing together.
Further, you show respect to a mestre, not go in and try to kick his butt. Granted Mestre Cobra is going to dominate regardless. My point is, as a student you show up to learn, not dominate. And regional or angola capoeiristas have a lot to learn from him.
