"Adventists Against Prop 8″ is an initiative started by a group of Adventists in California who decided, out of their commitment to the historic Adventist principle of the separation of church and state, to voice their concerns about (1) The Seventh-day Adventist Church State Councils public support of California Proposition 8, the proposition that would amend the state constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry, and (2) The imposition of a fundamentally religious definition of marriage that this Proposition represents.

I'd just like to throw out into the discussion the point that Pastor Oberg mentions at 4:17 . It's not about whether or not this is a sin, or if homosexuality is right or wrong, the point is that it is, in fact, a religious liberty debate. Nobody's asking you to agree with it, just consider the fact that other people have different viewpoints... and in America, the Free... people should be free to have those viewpoints or beliefs that don't line up with Christian viewpoints or beliefs.
The official SDA stance is against homosexuality. Julius Nam only represents his own views as an SDA.
I also agree that God did hand down specific dictums when it comes to marriage. However, I also accept that some people might not believe in my God.
If someone does not agree with my view of God, and do not agree with theirs, then it's irrational for either of us to have our way in the state, thus the separation.
We cannot use our religious views to argue for or against prop 8.
Marriage means something. - The union of a man and a wife. Nothing else. - unless people come along demanding that we can marry anything and it should be considered just the same. This is an attack on the instituion of marriage - trying to make it into something it has never been. Let's keep marriage meaning "Holy Matramony", not this other stuff that is unholy. God gave them man and wife.
momsdad: You seem ignorant of the history of marriage. You are a fundamentalist with a set of beliefs that you cherish. You cherish the beliefs themselves! All other evidence and consideration is ignored or bent to fit your cherished position. The rest of us don't cherish our beliefs, we subject them to scrutiny and adjust them as evidence mounts. It's silly to discuss anything with fundies because they don't respect logic nor commit to truth wherever it leads. They "cherish" where they are.
when god says to treat your neighbor as you would like to be treated and we take our neighbors rights as humans away is that how we would be like to be treated? and though i have grown up believing in this god, if he truely does discriminate against homosexuals or any other minority. i honestly cant follow someone like that.
When he forgave Mary Magdalene he asked her where are your accusers? when she said there were none, he said then neither do I condemn you..but he told her Go and Sin NO MORE
Yes God loves the sinner and hates the sin, and Jesus came to earth and associated with those considered the worst of sinners but it was so that he could SAVE them from their sin. Not agree with them and say it's your preference. If that were so, when he healed the sick he wouldn't have told them to rise pick up your mat and sin no more.
