Not part of the Tehachapi DVD. The westbound Amtrak Desert Wind, enroute to Union Station, Los Angeles, skirts through the Mojave Desert at the Daggett, California wye. It's met by a westbound UP headed for Yermo. Copyright © 2008, Jason Paul Kazarian. All rights reserved. More at:

  • @TheEmilychurchill Agreed. I've never been to Vegas (yet), but restored Amtrak service there would be a definite plus.

  • AMTRAK NEEDS TO BRING BACK THE DESERT WIND THE I 15 SUCKS IN TO VEGAS

  • great horn

  • great video brought me back to when i was a kid. i always used to wonder why Amtrak bought those. thought they never really looked good pulling a passenger train. However i never complained when i saw them.

  • ...more like desert tumbleweed

  • it was a mix between the san fran Zephyr and the Pioneer

  • @partyhouse88 Yeah they still do, but rarely for main service. Theyre used for switching mainly. Altough they can occasionally be found in normal service, mainly surfliner 799/798.

  • I have a video called Worlds Greatest Train Ride Videos Trans America. It shows the Amtrak route onboard the Broadway Limited, California Zephyr, and The Desert Wind from salt lake city to L.A. In the video, it has the Genesis units pulling the train. Is that typical or is it a rarity?

  • Does amtrak still use those dash8 units?

  • realized that after I posted the comment
