This clip shows what we were able to see from just outside the jail as the riot was in progress. An inmate held up a sign reading "HELP" several different times from his jail cell window. Officers from Ponca Cities tactical team as well as officers from Newkirks Police Dept and Troopers from Oklahoma Highway Patrol all chipped in to help the Kay County Deputies get the matter under control. Osage County also sent deputies in addition to a van to haul back 15 of the inmates to their facility. Four more inmates were hauled off to the Grant County jail and 5 others went to Ponca Cities jail. The riot all stemmed from some inmates that got upset that some other inmates got lunch before they did. I guess we can call this the "MOTHER" of all lunch room brawls. KSO Captain Scott Pemberton said inmates lit fires in the PODS, shattered windows, short circuited the electrical system, and pried steel doors from the concrete walls. Make sure you watch the followup videos showing what the inside of the jail looked like afterwards and listen to the Sheriffs comments on the matter in yet another video on the subject.
