I think I'd feel better if I knew what happened to the fish after being killed off. Do they make use of them? Does the rotenone affect them so they can't be eaten or used for something? Maybe they could even be brought to a local zoo and given to the dolphins, penguins, etc. Or even if they were all mashed up and used as a natural fertilizer...anything is better than just killing them off and letting them go to waste.

yes this seems bad but it is a necessary evil. you said its full of trout? i dont see one in the video, which is why they done this in the first place. they are getting rid of the undesireable fish that overpopulate and eat up all the food for the good game fish. once its all done they stock it back with the sport fish. this is why you NEVER put fish from your pond or stream in a public lake.

What they should do, is sponsor a fishing tournament, and get everyone involved. For what it cost to poison the fish, they could probably afford to buy a nice prize for the one who catches the most fish. What a waste!

i live here and i didnt no we had that many fish lol and they arent native they put trout and catfish and perch in it to start then the carp took over so they killed em off drained it then made a canal like thing through it to improve oxygen and water circulation to keep it cooler and they re stocked the lake with trout again and a few other things

@fisherguy2000 Yes they probably killed some trout, or bass, or perch or whatever the native species is, but they will be able to restock with fish of the exact same genetic make up of those that naturally existed before the poison.
Also, I'm guessing you would feel queesy if you had to gut a fish or a chicken or a cow, but you aren't vegetarian....Don't feel bad for something just because it is getting hurt or dying. It's better in the long run.

Why does it make you sick to your stomach?
NOT doing this shows a major disregard to the conservation of species. Yes, in the past mistakes have benen made (whether by regulatory bodies or private parties) where fish have been wrongfully introduced into a habitat, but this poisoning is trying to rectify it! Most of those fish (gizzard shad, carp, and suckers) are likely non native and problematic to the lake.

Makes me sick to my stomach watching all those fish get poisoned like that! I don't care what the intentions are when using rotenone...It's a chemical and it does not belong in water, period!
The trout are coming back strong! I just started fishing it again in January 2011 and the trout are growing nicely, up to 19 inches and thick, very healthy. ( ice fishing and spin casting) I haven't caught anything else other than the trout yet.
