Here's Part 3 of a newscast that aired on KTVU on March 6th, 1985. Thanks to my Aunt & Uncle for recording this.

1. Congressional Hearing on anti-abortion radicals
2. Stuck freighter finally towed away from Florida beachfront home (Okay...)
3. Segment 2: "Gone With The Wind" released on Home Video

  • $90 for a videocassette of "Gone with the Wind"?!?!

  • This was before VHS tapes were "priced to own". It wasn't until later on in the 80's that prices went down.

  • Really? I didn't know that. Interesting

  • Also: up until the 90's they still sold them at $90 for a lot of big new releases during the first six months or so. That way the only people who would buy them would be the rental places. That's probably what was going on in the case of "Gone With The Wind" here, but I'm not sure how much the average commercial VHS/Beta tape went for in 1985.

  • 25 years later, and not much has changed in the abortion debate...

If the reporter thought that owning Gone With the Wind on video made it less special, I can't imagine what he thinks of the fact it's available on Netflix steaming now.

In the late 80s, I taped over my parents' 1982 recording of GWTW off of CBS. Even at the time, I was thinking "You know, some of these commercials might be fun to keep." I wish I could go back in time and kick my ass for recording over them anyway.

  • yeah Gone with the wind was 90 when my mom bought it fo me in 1993

  • I think that's a pretty average price for the time. I remember begging my dad to buy me the Transformers movie, which came out in 1986, and it was about $90. As I recall, he just laughed and shook his head.
