This video tells (in summary) The tale of Tír na nÓg, set to the Van Morrison song of the same name.

The video is dedicated to my son Michael who we lost on October 25, 2008 at the young age of 21. Today (Dec. 23, 2010) would have been his 23 birthday.

The song "Tír na nÓg" was written and recorded by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison, released in 1986 on the "No Guru, No Method, No Teacher" album under the Mercury Record label.

Michael was a big fan of Van Morrison's. He and his mother would listen to and sing many of his songs together.

I do not own the rights to distribute this recording. If you have enjoyed the video and/or the Van Morrison recording of Tír na nÓg please purchase the song.

  • thanks for your comments,

Michael was a good boy with a warm heart.

Since I have connected this song to him it has become hard for me to listen to it without fighting off a tear or two.

  • This song is very dear to me, for a long period of time,as is Van Morrison. In it lies all the mystery of Ireland and of life. However, I didn't know the Tir Na No-story behind it. Thanks for sharing it !

Been driven to it for some unknown reason on this Christmas day and finding it back in your dear memories and sadness of your last son, makes me believe that there is more in life than one could ever measure or control.

  • This song hit me in the heart about 25 years ago, And still i play it very very often. Could someone please give me the Dutch (Nederlands) translation of this song?

  • Your son had an amazing spirit, without a doubt. I am so discouraged by the youth of the world, their lack of appreciation for all things beautiful. Your son simply might have been TOO amazing for this place. Every day, you're one day closer to seeing him again. If you get a chance, listen to "I Believe" by Robert Plant..his song for Karac, the son he lost years ago. It's absolutely beautiful, and I think you'll find some solace. Much love to you....
