Dangerous Intersection: Live Oak Plantation Road and Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, Florida

Intersection of Live Oak Plantation Road and Thomasville Road in Tallahassee, Florida.

The lane is a right turn only lane, but many drivers ignore the traffic control devices and choose to change lanes dangerously without obey the sign to turn.

My accident was at this intersection. Cones should be placed to force drivers in this lane to turn.

I spent 20 minutes videotaping this and this does not include all the vehicles that did this.

Update 10/12/2009: I sent this video to the City of Tallahassee traffic engineers. They forwarded it to the Department of Transportation since the state maintains this part of the road. I was CCed on the email but I have not heard anything back from DOT regarding any future plans for improving this section of the street. If I hear anything hopeful, I'll post it here. Thanks.

--- Update 01.25.2012---

This intersection has been fixed. Now prior to reaching the light in the video, traffic is forced into to the straight lane, and if someone wants to turn, they have to consciously make the decision to do so. Glad it's been fixed. Took way too long and a few lives as well.

people do ignore that turn lane. i just moved to atlanta, but i lived in tally for almost 20 years. i hated turning left onto thomasville road from live oak plantation.

I forwarded this on to city traffic engineers who forwarded it on the state Department of Transportation. Apparently this road is maintained by the state, so hopefully they will see this and fix it somehow because it's quite dangerous and still happens.

Yeah, some fools might ram the bollards just to beat another driver in the through lane.

Maybe ... but I would definitely say enforce the right-turn-only lane, or extend the far corner on the other side by a full car width, or both ... in addition to the right-turn-only island. Just in case the more stupid drivers try to jump the concrete, or ram the bollards.

Yeah, stick bollards or a concrete right turn-only island should be installed.
