Local tragedy as Marrickville Council chops down a beautiful healthy lemon scented gum tree in Cambridge Street Marrickville. The Marrickville Greens councillors attempted to save this tree, but Labor and Independent Councillors voted to chop it down.
I wonder what the official proposal cited? Was it because it was a danger to power-lines? Did they declare the tree over the safe limit of rot/dead-wood? Did property owners complain about limited "view"? Did they squeeze a pathetic vote because supposedly the tree drops branches and it is a danger to the neighbourhood?
Whatever the case is, it certainly is sad to see that tree go. BTW, to me this Gum Tree looks beautiful, great classic shape, excellent size.

Sad mentality and I'm not even Australian, I'm European.

This is fantastic. I think it's good that they're getting rid of those horrible trees; they're ugly, they're dangerous and they use more water than much nicer deciduous trees. Look at how far Israel has come with trees, the nation was 97% bare a century ago. Now, beautiful pine forests cover much of the land. We should be copying their model to replace ugly native trees with European trees.
