Wouldn't it be great if Perl built-ins could throw their own exceptions, with proper error hierarchies, and nice-looking error messages?

Wouldn't it be great if these could be enabled with a lexical scope?

With the new autodie pragma, it can.

  • There are other fonts? ;)

Actually, thank-you very much for the font advice. While I do an awful lot of presenting, I daresay most of it uses the first fonts I can find, and both Arial and Courier New come pretty early in the alphabet. ;)

    Downloading Inconsolata now. ;)

    Thanks again, Paul

  • nice presentation. thanks

  • Nice! My only complaint is... err... the typography. :-) Seriously... Arial and Courier New? (A double faux-pas!)

If you use a Mac, it has Helvetica on it. For monospace, get Inconsolata (easily found with Google; free).

On Windows, the fonts from Vista (available for XP as part of the gratis PowerPoint Viewer) include Calibri and the drop-dead gorgeous Consolas.

Another option is the free DejaVu family.

For monospace on either system, a somewhat distant 4th option is Andale Mono.
