The persian dancer Ava Farhang shot in Paris by Nicolas Coviello at the Nikki Diana Marquardt Gallery, december 2009.
The dancer is Ava Farhang and she comes from a Sufi Kurdish-Iranian family. She says her dance is influenced by her Sufi roots as well as by Indian classical dance.
Her dancing, coming from the Indo-Persian culture, is a life force, wild and sensuous, a cosmic spinning dance paying tribute to the Divine and to Creation. Her research is marked by the Sufi tradition of Persia. She takes her inspiration from Kurdish folk dances (she is of Kurdish origin), as well as from the grace and precision of the classical dances of north India and the Dhammâl, trance-inducing pieces of the mystics of Pakistan.
