This is a half stick of dynamite taped to a small propane canister, like what you buy in the camping section at Wal-Mart. It was taped and thrown. Camera is about 100 yards away. The propane tank didn't explode like we were hoping but it made a nice flame. You could still here the propane coming out after it went off.

  • Addendum: I have only experimented with a small propane camping bottle, one road flare and a .30 cal M1-Carbine rifle to shoot the hanging canister. The blast flushed my face and my friends from 50 yards away, but there was no wind that day. People came driving up to see what happened.

  • OK, well the other way to do it, since newer propane tanks have safety valves to prevent exploding, is to put a fire (Sterno is good or charcoal) under the tank to heat it till it bursts and then have flares all round to detonate the gas and air mixture ... Oops, I said too much already. Keep in mind a 20 pound Propane tank is equivalent to 50 sticks of dynamite in total explosive power!

  • If you want to create an real FAE (Fuel Air Explosion) you need to disperse the gas completely then ignite it, usually with an magnesium flare -- wind is bad, as it can mess up your result.

  • 1/2 stick...don't embarrass yourself. That's not even close.

  • next time better get 500 gallons of propane tank and see what happen

  • was not as big as expected

  • This reminds me of the part on finding nemo where the water mines blow up at the submarine shark attack scene and at the surface its just like a pelican fart... hahaha!

  • nice evil laugh

  • @flamingknifevideos Better safe than sorry.

  • @flamingknifevideos Luckily this was just flash powder of some kind so yeah, you are right. However, if had been a real high explosive blast, pieces of that tank would have flown up to a half mile easy, especially the base plate. BUT i apologize if i sound like an asshole, and being that these guys put the contents UNDER the tank it have mostly just gone straight up and out so they were somewhat safe. Just saying hot frag flies fast and far hahaha
