Hello from Greece. I've been practicing martial arts for more than 20 years, I now practice the suibukan style wich is consisted of 3 schools 1)shorin ryu2) matayoshi kobudo and 3)suikendo.We belong to Master Tadashi Yamashita's organization. I would like to understand sensei mccarthy's viewpoint on the interpretation of katas

A wonderful point of view. I wish more teachers thought this way.
McCarthy Sensei,
Who is the gentleman in the majority of the black and white photos, of a small stature demonstrating techniques?
For example, as found at 3.59 on the right.
Thanks You.

@mccarthysensei Sensei, as far as i followed the speach, it sounded that You are pointing out that for excample Shotokan karate katas are rigid and absolutely unrealistic ones? Is that true? What kind of Ryus You are advicing then? Okinawan ones? Matsubayashi for excample?

It's about realistic scenarios and training methods that reflect this mindset... not rule-bound practices, nor the "correct" uniforms, lineage and or nationalities, etc.
