The definitive guide to cockney rhyming slang
David Doormat; gobshite, northern arrogant tosser, informs you of some cockney slang.

Jimmy Riddle.
Meaning, "on the fiddle", for anyone evading tax, this is a well used phrase. So, anyone saying, "I'm off for a Jimmy" is off to fraudulently fill out some self-assessment forms.
Pony and trap.
This one will be familiar to the gangsta, trap rhymes with rap, so if you hear any reference to something being 'pony', it means rap music, as invented by Rolf Harris.
Apples and pears.
From the 70's, this slang refers to flairs, flaired jeans, the kind worn by
Ruby Murray.
"Fancy a Ruby?" you'll hear cockneys saying, it means slurry, something pigs had to eat during the war, so a 'ruby' is bacon sandwich.
Hampton Wick
"Ooh, that platter of smoked salmon has given me the Hampton's", yes, Hampton Wick rhymes with sick, as in chucking up or projectile vomiting

  • Sorry, g4rdenspoon..I now realise you were just "taking the piss" and I deserve it! I was born at Kings Cross - does that make me a Cockney? Is it within the sound of the Bow Bells?

  • @lindasilvester Ha ha!! You're welcome :)

  • YOU AINT COCKNEY YOU NORTHERN TOSSER

  • A friend of mine had a few of his friends from London visit here to the States, and I struck a convo with one of them. As we were all drunk as Hell and in a loud bar, I couldn't understand everything he said but one thing was his girl back home was a "bunson". I only nodded and laughed. Any clues?
