The CSLB is a joke. All they do is take lots of money from contractors and applicants and pay themselves huge salaries for doing just about nothing but making hard working Americans jump through hoops to get that coveted licence.

These "stings" are so few and far between, they have no chance to make a dent in the number of unlicensed contractors, yet they make sure to get the media there so it looks like theyr'e doing something.

How many of these unlicensed contractors are out there?  If they arrested 150 in two days there are probabley thousands. The homedepot near my home has nothing but unmarked heavy duty trucks picking up materials all day long. In this economy though people may not care if the price is right. Sometimes all I see the CSLB doing is collecting money, sort of taxation without representation if you get my reference.

I agree with you guys , the economy takes a shit and they still have high fees,WTF, miss the renew fee and it goes to 500.00 and if you have bad credit from the shity economy then your bond rate triples in cost, again WTF!

I'm a Licensed contractor with 2 different classifications "B" & C-53, I understand that the laws are there to be respected, but honestly all these laws only mark up the prices for the consumers, that's one reason why potential customers will hire an unlicensed contractor, at the end of the day the only people making money are the insurance and bond companies like general liability, workers comp and of course the board. There is alot of Republican States that don't have all this burrocracy.

I have a C7, paid all the fees and expenses, for what? everyone is doing business without any license, I ve seen jobs taken away by people who doesnt even have permission to work in the US!

why are they handcuffing them.. Are they a threat to the security of the home owner?

There is no need to handcuff them just take there license and give them a summons to appear in front of a judge to answer to the fact of why they are going around pretending to be licensed contractors and then they get a fine and they go on there way . But handcuffing them is stupid and not needed. Besides the home owner should always ask to see the lic. before they hire a contractor anyway.

Just because a guy is licensed does not mean that he will : 1.) not rip you off , 2.) do a good job , 3.) not hire illegals to do the work instead of himself. In fact , if a guy pays his fees to the CSLB and has a license , then he can legally put a lien on your house if you do not pay him whatever he demands !! Americans should be able to hire anyone they want to do work on thier home.

you should spend your time arresting contractors who hire illegals immigrants AND those illegal immigrants.. or is that perfectly fine as long as the state gets it's cut (license fee)?

The law is clear. $500 or more on any single job and you need to carry a license, otherwise, you're considered an "unlicensed contractor". That's the cslb's phrasing, not mine. If you have a problem with it, lobby to have the law changed. To borrow another users words...you're either lazy or too dumb to get them to change the law. Until that's done, you can quit complaining and I'll keep working.

I have a drain cleaning business, carry 1MIL liability ins. Every one of my jobs are under $500
