After months of deliberation, the US government has finally unveiled a new strategy for Sudan - and the key word appears to be engagement rather than isolation.




During his campaign for office, US President Barack Obama had pledged to get tough with the Sudanese government - whose leader, Omar al Bashir, is wanted for war crimes.

But now the Obama administration is taking more of a carrot and stick approach, promising incentives as well as sanctions.
