A popular saying in my childhood was, Sticks and stones may break my bones but names and lies wont hurt me. Though it is a catchy phrase, it couldnt be further from the truth. Hateful and abusive words can be devastating to the human soul. Murders, suicides, fights, church splits, family feuds, divorces, and the like are all products of hateful and spiteful words. On the other hand, our tongue can also be used for good. Our words can encourage, lift up, admonish, and bring peace to a troubled situation.

What type of path do your words leave behind? A path of destruction or a path of hope, healing and restoration? Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21
