Chess: Live Blitz game 10

This is my 10th "Live Blitz" game. This game was not particularly challenging due to my opponent's opening error but I hope my viewers will get something out of it. After 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Nc3 my opponent tried the nuance 3...a6. I'm not sure what the theory is on this move but after my 6.Nf5 it appears ...a6 doesn't have much point. After 6...Qf6 Black's position definitely is bad.

You should definitely be well versed in the basic principles of development (minor pieces first, keep non-center-pawn moves to a minimum) if you wish to play the classical openings with success.

Cool win. I suspect he was practizing a new pet-opening and hadn't yet found anything against a scotch reply to his a6. Maybe he has interesting ideas in other variations. Or maybe he's just a patzer. You played it like a champ though

I think 3...a6 4.g3 Bc5 is fantastic for Black.

Note in the normal Scotch 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 exd4 4.Nxd4 Bc5 5.Nf5 Black can play either ...Qf6 or ...d5!

But with the extra moves Nc3 and ...a6 thrown in, ...d5 just hangs a pawn and ...Qf6 gets hit with Nd5 before Black has a chance to play ...Nge7 (as in the game).

instead of bishop f4, maybe Nxg7+?

With the point being Nxg7+ Qxg7 Nxc7+ ? I guess so.

I'm not sure if it's an improvement over Bf4 though. I'd rather keep the initiative. Nxg7+ Kd8 and now what?

At 2:15, what about Bd3, storing up the threats of f4 and Bf4. Seems pretty darn strong. What you played definitely can't be criticized though.
