My video for "Southtown Girls" by the Hold Steady, my final project for Media Production and my entry in the band's current video contest. Shot in and around Boston, the video's a frenetic headtrip through the makings of an oddball romance.

@XXgoblinmonkeyXX That's your interpretation; that's cool. I guess I don't know what you mean by, "gimp." I viewed the "gimp" as a boy so riddled with anxiety that he had developed nervous twitches and ticks. The girl, although not gorgeous, was indeed pretty and kind. In the end, her kindness calmed his anxiety. Neat little love story.

You guys should see Southtown now.
For the record, the song describes how it used to be when it was awesome. Now, its one of the more boring strip malls around Bloomington.
But, I still go there and sit in the parking lot and listen to this song, just because.

Represent. Video was shot in Boston, but mad respect to the Twin Cities. Not just cuz of the Hold Steady, but the Rhymesayers crew as well.

...even the tone? Surely you agree a music video needs to make an attempt to match the tone of the song.

I started off with a love story, something offbeat that stepped in line with the chorus. Then I took it in a bajillion crazy directions. I essentially had a ton of weird locations around the city i wanted to shoot at and this love story seemed like a great opportunity to showcase that.
