Another jamming night at the PucaPuca in Fujisawa/Japan - our favorite place to hang out and to kanikapila.
Braddah IZ's 50th birthday was just a month ago, the anniversary of his way to early death a few days ahead. A good opportunity to celebrate the memory of the man who left us a heritage of wonderful music and an idea of the spirit of the islands we miss you so much.
Aloha nō, Braddah IZ!
Here we (Nao, AlohaShu and my humble self) play and sing "Kaleohano".
"Kaleohano" was written and composed by Louis "Moon" Kauakahi.
Kaleohano, 'o Kaleohano kou inoa
Ku'u home, ku'u home, ku'u home 'o Keaukaha*
Kaulana 'o Keaukaha
Kaleohano, 'o Kaleohano kou inoa
Ku'u 'âina, ku'u kulâiwi, a huli I ke kai
Kaulana 'o Keaukaha.
Aloha au Iâ Mauna Kea, I ke anu o ke ahiahi
Ho'olono, ho'olono, ho'olono I ka leo ka makani
Keaukaha nô e ka wahi.
Kaleohano (a name meaning:The Voice (of) Authority and Respect),
Kaleohano (is) your name
My (in a form expressing affection) home, my home, my home, Keaukaha
Famous (is) Keaukaha
Kaleohano, Kaleohano (is) your name
My land, my native land, and dashing and receding (is) the sea
Famous (is) Keaukaha.
I LoveMauna Kea, in the cold of the evening.
Listen, listen, listen to the voice of the wind
Keaukaha (is) indeed, the place.
I am familiar with the song but never knew the meaning. Great job with the music, and lovely hula as well! Thanks for posting!

Haole - you did a wonderful job on this. The song always makes me weep because I remember seeing what Iz and the Makaha Sons did when they last were together.
Me ke aloha,
Auntie Wanda
