Malaysian palm oil enters the alternative fuel industry

The cost of palm oil has risen dramaticsally amid European demands for alternative fuels.

Indonesia and Malaysia are the world's top two palm oil exporters

But as Al Jazeera's Divya Gopalan reports, the UN has objected to the use of this edible fuel.

I don't see Oil Palm production is threat to environment. The only threat i saw is the human technology like cars, computers, plastics , air condition etc. The world needed it due to supply and demand chart. More over, resources are running out for human race. if you have the money buy an island and stay in the forest.Forest fire in US, Canada, Oil Spill is even devastating.

the 'environmentally friendly' fuels arn't good for the environment at all. To get the oil, the last remainin habitat for native animals is bein destroyed, the soil that used to have forests on it is bein turned over and thus releasein emmisions, rivers & waterways are bein polluted & salinity levels are rising. The fuel consumption goes up by 30%. More co2 would have been saved by the forests that have been destroyed then what would hav been saved usin this fuel instead of the normal fuel.
