How To Change App Icons On Non-Jailbroken iDevices

You can change your iOS device app icons on either a Windows or a Mac computer WITHOUT JAILBREAKING. Watch the video for full directions and the big app warning, but here's a brief rundown.

THIS DOES NOT SEEM TO BE WORKING FOR iOS 5.

This is great for creating iPhone 4 high resolution icons for the apps where the developer has not given you one, or to change the app icon completely!

1) Using iPhone Explorer, expand the "Applications" folder.
2) Locate the app folder that you want to change the icon for.
3) Pull the "Info.plist" out, onto your computer desktop.
4) Open it up, and look at the "Icon file" (if there is only one icon file) or "CFBundleIconFiles" info (if there are multiple icon files).
5) Create a PNG image and rename it the same that is in the icon info.
6) Drag that into the app folder, as shown in the video, and confirm to replace it (it's a good idea to backup what is originally in there, just in case you mess up!)

The naming rules are USUALLY what follows below, but not always, hence the necessity for step 3&4 above:

Icon.png (57x57 -- for iPhone and iPod Touch)
Icon@2x.png (114x114 -- for iPhone 4)
Icon-72.png (72x72 -- for iPad)
Icon-Small.png (29x29 -- Settings app and in search results for iPhone and iPod Touch)
Icon-Small@2x.png (58x58 -- Settings app and in search results on iPhone 4)
Icon-Small-50.png (50x50 -- search results on iPad)
