Coral 64129. In 1953, they were saying that Johnny Rector and his Music Mountain Boys were new on the 'folk music' scene, but was getting a good response from fans. He got his start playing guitar in 1946, but was said to have switched to the ballad type song and sang "...with a lusty voice and a dimpled smile."

He was getting attention first as a songwriter who had his compositions being recorded by others. One such tune, "Married By the Bible, Divorced By The Law" was one he collaborated with with Neva Starns and Pee Wee Truehitt and was recorded by Hank Snow and also included in one Hank's song folios.

At the time they wrote the article, they mentioned he was recording with the Coral label.
