This is a very simple visual and audio experience (no music) of actually walking the Camino de Santiago, or "St James Way", an 800 km journey over 30 days from St Jean Pied de Port to Santiago Compestela. I started recording this video (in the simple video mode of a pocket camera) around Burgos, but wanted to capture walking for myself, and past and future pilgrims. If you get bored just watching 18 minutes of a road and hearing my steps, at least watch the last 2 minutes when I arrive in Santiago Compestela - it was quite magical walking in "escorted" by a parade of Brazilians.

  • Note: the first 10 minutes of this video are from the Mesede (Tierra de Campos), the flat middle section of the Camino between Burgos and Leon. During the hot summer, some people bus around this section. That is a pity, as it was my favorite part exactly BECAUSE it is wide and expansive, open to contemplation and with fewer people than the beginning and end of the Camino (crazy many). The beginning (St. Jean to Burgos) is primarily mountains. The ending (Leon to Santiago) is rolling hills.

  • Is this too boring? I like just letting it run to remember the feeling and all the time for contemplation. Meditative. But, should I put up another version with music?

  • Boring? BORING? This was beautiful, and has simply reinforced my desire to make this journey. The silence of the meseta is exactly what I'm looking for.

  • I am thinking of waling the it this spring, or summer and this really is great to watch. Don't change it. It is so real. The sounds with not music. Thank you.

  • I walked here 2 months ago and loved it. Interesting how the weather affects the way you experience the landscape. The scenery is captured well and my only complaint is that I got kind of seasick after awhile. Buen camino!

  • I loved watching this. I kept saying to my wife, "I remember this part". This is exactly what it is like. Don't change a thing.

  • I LOVE this video! Don't change a thing. Very relaxing and soothing, like a zen walking meditation.

Attention viewers: if you cannot watch this movie to the end and enjoy it, then the Camino de Santiago is not for you, because this is exactly how it looks and feels like most of the time. It's a long, moving contemplation of the subtleties of the changing landscape and the sounds of nature.
