Jim Foster passed away Nov 1st. He was a retired coal miner and a brave soldier in the fight against mountaintop removal mining. I met Jim at a music festival on Kayford Mountain in 2006. Jim and his wife, Jean, had a hunting camp in Pocahontas County. When he found out that I was from that neck of the woods, well, that sealed the deal. Friends for life.
The videos are a memorial to my dear friend. They are excerpts from my film Rise Up! West Virginia. He wanted so much to tell the world how he felt about mountaintop removal and the destruction brought upon his home place. He wanted to live long enough to see it stopped. He will be a guiding light for those of us who knew him and loved him. And may he be an inspiration for everyone working to end the war that has been waged on Appalachia.
Love you, Uncle Jim. You are missed.
