Speaking at Loyola College, David Simon, an author and creator of the acclaimed HBO program, "The Wire," shares his views on the end of the American Empire in three video segments. He says we're headed for separate Americas of "haves and have-nots." Simon faults "unencumbered Capitalism" for making our country care less about the most vulnerable of our citizens. Unless we change, he predicts "we are doomed."

Not that I disagree with much that Simon describes, but it's just funny to hear a priviliged northeastern, upper-middle class white guy wring his hands.
It´s impossible that capitalism makes society happy and stable if more than 60% of human population lives in poverty. Captalism by definition is unbalanced
Your very funny, the US worker can't work for the same wages as the Chinese, Indonesian, Malay, or the Indian worker. The dollar is week, but it isn't weaker than the Chinese Yuan. Besides, they use forced labor in China from political prisoner camps and prison camps. This also cuts down on costs in China, and China has a surplus of workers more than the USA. India has the most computer scientists on the planet, and they will work for less than the American worker. Jobs will move there.
You're 100% on target, we are so fucked it's not to be believed. If came into a lot of money, the last thing I would do is keep it in dollars. I would do the same: commodities, commodities, commodities.
