Organizers work with school officials in each country providing curriculums and presentations that promote goodwill and self-esteem. Each day of the Run an estimated 1000 children participate worldwide. Runners also meet with community groups and youth organizations that promote goodwill at the grassroots level. Past participants and supporters have included Nelson Mandela and his wife Graca Machel, Muhammad Ali, Pope John Paul II, Mother Teresa, Desmond Tutu, Mikhail Gorbachev, Carl Lewis, Rigoberta Menchu, Russell Simmons, Billie Jean King and countless others. Everyone is invited to participate, either by running, walking, holding the torch or just cheering. Every person adds up to make a positive difference in the world. Yours is the first step!
