School shootings are not new, people just keep forgetting about them.

I can vaguely remember this song but I was not old enough to be exposed to the media around the event.

If you are wondering how far back the history of school shootings go, there are accounts back into the 1800's.

I am not a fan of the NRA or loose gun laws, but psychopathy pre-dates guns.

How is it confusing? Ben basically said that this song has nothing to do with shootings (I believe he thinks that school shootings didn't happen 33 years ago lol). DBMScorchy's response says that they have been happening for decades (probably as long as guns have been out), it's just that people don't tend to remember occurrences that far back or just haven't heard about them. Simple as that.

The have some of the details wrong, by the way. The song suggests that Brenda Ann Spencer had a nice home with loving parents. In reality, she lived with her drunken father in poverty. The two shared a bed (a mattress on the floor). She confided to the school that she was depressed and suicidal but the father refused to allow her psychiatric care. According to her, she asked him for a radio, and instead, he got her a gun (hoping she would commit suicide). Instead, she used on the school.

She didn't open fire on a playground. The children were waiting outside the school property for the Principal to open the gates when Brenda Ann Spencer started shooting. The principal tried to get the children inside, but Spencer killed him, and the custodian who came to his aid. She injured eight children and one cop. A reporter called houses in the neighborhood to find out what was going on and reached Spencer. When he asked why, she told him, "I don't like Mondays; this livens up the day."
