Bobby Darin and Bob Hope do a vaudeville-type comedy routine. They are then joined by Joanie Sommers for a soft-shoe dance and a rousing rendition of "Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey".

  • Doing a set like that for a long time pro like Bob had to be difficult because he knew his cues and blockings but he was dealing with the other 2 who winged a part of it.

Bobby Darin was a legend, Joanie Sommers was well known for doing comedy shows (such as Jack Benny). However, this time around they mailed it in.

  • I wouldn't be quite as hard as you are on Bobby and Joanie Sommers. I found this bit quite enjoyable and thought that all involved did a good job. It is vaudeville after all, and the jokes are supposed to be corny and well-worn. In the joke telling part Bob Hope was cracking up just as much as Bobby, which many would view as unprofesional, but I just see as a sign that everyone was having a good time.

  • I have watched this clip over and over and thoroughly enjoy it each time. I don't see the awkwardness mentioned, but rather 3 people having a wonderful time which still today makes me smile and conveys the lost art of fun entertainment by talents that we no longer see in the entertainment business today! LOVE Bobby Darin! Thank you for posting!

  • First aired as part of an NBC Special Presentation in 1964.

  • I think it is wonderful they did seem like they were having A good time...

  • cues were refering to staging as was the blocking. never even gave the laughing a thought. Hope was a hoofer who knew how to move onstage. And you could see that Hope was trying to not to trip up on them or go against their awkward cadence.

I still think Darin was a great, great performer. Just giving a critique of when he was pit against a hall of famer. Hey, Benny let Daring upstage him on his show....
