My new shrimp tank! For Christmas we got an Ecosphere (a glass pod with shrimp in it) and, thinking like an aquarists, I thought it was cruel (ammonia and nitrite build up and stuff). The water started getting dirty and I felt horrible that I couldn't clean it! So my mom got a hammer and bowl and bashed it open (I swear I got a mini heart attack!).

They were still alive! So I set up my old 1.5 gallon tank, got some sand and rocks from the beach, set it up with a filter and they were happily swimming around the large space! They are cute little guys and am happy we got them out of the Ecosphere :)

There are three of them, by the way.

  • awesome tank :)

i dont like those little ecospheres ;( i feel bad for the poor creature who has to live in them! btw~I LOVE the sand! great idea taking it from the beach. how did you get the sand so clean? thanks! (great video 2)

  • @2213catlover Thanks. They are really happy, at night they swim around. Its really cute. I don't know how it became so clean, I just rinsed it a few times, got out any bits of seaweed lol and pic up any left over food. Thanks for watching!

  • OH MY GOSH! THANK GOODNESS YOU SAVED THEM! :D I have the same 1.5 gallon as you and kept shrimp in there until they upgraded to a 2.5 :D

Those shrimp are RCS (you seen my videos) and they are clear due to stress. Water changes+live plants = happy, they turn red. they will breed btw. A 1.5 is a good size for nano shrimp tank! Bravo! :D

  • @RyanLocomo Thanks. When I filmed this they were just introduced. I also read that males are a clearer color than females, so it seems I have a female and two males. In the future I'm going to see if i can get a larger tank, such as a three gal.

    Thanks for watching!

  • @RyanLocomo - Ecosphere shrimp are not RCS (Neocaridina heteropoda). They are Upae Ula (Halocaridina rubra) and prefer water with a little bit of sea salt. Upae Ulas are much smaller, slightly different shape, and can withstand greater environmental extremes. =)

  • they onky get to a bout 1.5 CENTIMETERS long lol. tiny!

  • @MyFishCare101 lol, i want to get some shrimp now! and consider getting some sand from the beach for my aquarium...keep up the great videos! :)

  • Is that just regular Ghost shrimp...they look like it.

Keep them in there and you will have tons of baby soon..
