She has waited a long time, Restlessly, you might say, while her creator, Bob Kingsland has exercised extraordinary patience.
It has been 28 years since Kingsland put ribs upon spine, skin upon ribs; 28 years since he began toiling away at his labor of love. She is a big, bold beauty now, measuring 50 feet from bow to stern, with an expansive steel hull. Teak caprails show remarkable craftsmanship, with stars as exclamation points on curved locking scarves.
Restless is Kingsland's dream boat. On Saturday, she will settle where she belongs.
"When they hit the water, they come alive," Kingsland predicted. "That, oh that, is going to be something."
When Restless is launched from the Jericho boat ramp in Scituate at 1 p.m. and slips into her mooring, it will be an important milestone for Kingsland and his family.
