showing how i chose to modify my blades to my specifications and update the sheaths. If i could only have one knife and LIvE in the wildernes i would take the BK 9 but i would be perfectly prepared with a medium axe 16-20 inches a machete13-16 inches large knife 5-7 inches and a swiss army champ or multitool. I usually have a old timer with a thin clip point in my pocket for intricate carving

  • I really like that mod on the bk9, theres not alot of knives in the sub $100 range with a 6" blade that use carbon steel.

  • Any tips on how to best cut-down the BK9 sheath ?? ... All I can think of is to just slice it with the BK9 and burn the end, so it wont fray. There must be a better way ?

(I do own a Leatherman Surge with a Sheeps-Foot serrated blade ... maybe that.

  • Wow ... I just got a BK9 with the expressed intent of cutting it down for legal Texas EDC, in a Maxpedition Sabercat waist pack. It was the only value blade that has a cutting edge that runs clear back to the handle (no choil) ...

... So, in the end, it will look something like my Ontario SP8 (the perfect tool, but too long for Texas) ... Like a meat-cleaver (90 degree chop) that has s 5+7/16ths inch cutting blade, and a pry-bar taper, at the blunt tip. Sheath, chopped under pocket.

  • BK9.... :'(

  • @virtuovice the primary gring is almost scandi but has a very slight convex edge you could say it is a mixture of the two but really it is just a very subtile convex edge the secondary grind is a medium -high flat grind I call it the survivalist grind!!!!.

  • @iAmTheSurvivalist I love Scandi grind and high convex grind more than a secondary edge. I guess you do, too. Thank you!

  • @virtuovice that it does that it does! I love the belt sander! I forgot to tell you that once i had the shape i wanted from the bench grinder i finished the shaping with 80 grit sand paper then 250 and 400 last 500 and then i used my stone which is medium and extra fine. It chops like crazy now because of the large scandi profile!
