The default 'Radiance' theme on Ubuntu 10.10 looks very similar to the Aqua style, so I researched means to transform my desktop so I could really see the differences in style between the two OSes.
The tutorial at http://blog.sudobits.com/2011/03/02/how-to-install-mac-theme-on-ubuntu-10-10/ is simple and small. With only a few clicks and keypresses, the desktop changes dramatically. While not a perfect replica, it does incorporate a lot of the Mac features that are useful, such as the main menu bar integrating into the taskbar.
very nice, pity Windows doesn't let you do this without much more hackery :(
