Probably one of the most familiar coaches on Larry Porter's staff is former Alabama coach Mike DuBose, who was brought in to guide the Tiger defensive line.

DuBose had a storied career at Alabama, playing for the Crimson Tide (1972-74), working as a graduate assistant (1975), serving as an assistant coach (1983-86, 1990-96) and ultimately taking them helm of his alma mater (1997-2000). He coached the 'Bama defensive line in 1992, and helped the squad lead the nation in rushing defense that season -- a year that saw the Tide win the National Championship.

DuBose's experience spans the high school, collegiate and professional levels. He coached at four high schools and had a three-year stint with the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in addition to his 24 years of collegiate coaching experience. He has been on the sidelines for 12 bowl contests, and came to Memphis after five seasons at Millsaps College. He was the Majors defensive coordinator in 2005, and then served as the head coach from 2006-09 at the Jackson, Miss., college.

When asked what influenced his decision to add DuBose to his staff, Porter said, "I think his resume speaks for itself, but he is a better man than he is a coach. And, along with that, he has a tremendous amount of wisdom, both as an assistant coach and a head coach. Everything that he brings to the table serves the program as a whole."

DuBose sat down with Memphis Tiger Vision and spoke at length about what intrigued him about Coach Larry Porter, what he loves most about football and how he feels about the chemistry of this coaching staff. He also revealed a talent that many may not know about him.

The Tigers officially report for fall camp on Sunday and their first practice is scheduled for Monday afternoon at the Murphy Athletic Complex. The squad will have five single practices before its first two-a-day session on Saturday.

The 2010 Highland Hundred Kick-Off Banquet is slated for Friday, Aug. 6, at the Hilton Hotel at 939 Ridge Lake Boulevard. Social hour is from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m., with a dinner and the program to follow. Admission is $40 per person and is open to the public. Porter will speak to the crowd and the Tiger newcomers will be introduced.

Season tickets, as well as individual away game tickets, are on sale now for the 2010 season. Season tickets for the six home contests are $200 in the prime seats and $100 in the fun zone. Away ticket prices are as follows: Mississippi State ($40), East Carolina ($40), UTEP ($25), Louisville ($47), Marshall ($32) and UAB ($30).
