I learned to crochet by watching several experts here on YouTube. When I saw mikeyssmail's videos about crocheting, I was taken away. He was very easy to understand. I saw a wavy shell stitch blanket he made and decided I wanted to do that, but as an American Flag. I thought the ripple effect would add to this being a flag. :) I did this with a size G hook. The loop stitch was added after the fringe, behind the fringe, so that I can hang it on a rod. The dimensions are specific to executive order and the flag measures just over 8 ft long and 4.5ft wide. It is very warm and heavy. It's my first big project and I love it to pieces.

  • If anyone has this pattern please send it to me at wiley.m@cox.net...I am a volunteer for the El Reno Free Medical Clinic and I could auction this off to raise much needed funds for the clinic...Thank you in advance.

  • nebraska_650@cox.net is my valid email address. remember the underscore. It's kind of backwards from my id here - 650nebraska; sorry for the confusion. Anyone can email me and I'll send the pattern via PDF document.

  • would you mind sharing the pattern for this project including the fringe? I love it so very much I would like to make one of my own

  • I have created a rough draft of the pattern and put it online at

It should be pretty close; but I did the afghan first and then wrote the pattern; so I'm sure there is a mistake or two in there. When you find them, let me know so I can correct.

  • Won't let me post a URL. There is a link in my main "broadcast" page where it is. Otherwise, I'm not sure how to share a non-video document in this environment. Can email me at nebraska_650@cox.net and I can send the PDF document...

  • Are those dimentions for any size afghan? Mine is 50 inches wide and 203 stitches across.

  • So based on a flag that is 50 inches wide, the Union will be 20 inches wide. (50/1.9) * 0.76 = 19.999999.

  • ude use trapcode form instead! well it was good for your plugin choise . Watch my tutorial for making a impressive 3D flag animation, and then make a new video ;) but nice try though........

in my opinion Trapcode Form destroys all other plugins if you want the best and most impressive flag animation......

  • I love this afghan. If anyone has the pattern or know where to get it please e-mail. cnorababy@yahoo.com

  • You are amazing. I am going to do the same thing, having seen your comment on mikey's page. My fiance's grandparent's 65th anniversary is coming up and they were both Capts in the Airforce during World World 2. I want to make them an amazing gift for them. :D

  • I am so astounded it brought tears to my eyes, but alas I have no patience to do one that big I think.
